Hello Sewist!

My name is Madeline and I am the designer and founder of Stitch Witch Patterns. I am based in Ottawa, Canada. Years ago, I started my journey in making my own wardrobe. Back then, I almost exclusively wore vintage, which in turn created the need to be able to fit and alter my own clothing. Thus began my journey in sewing! After slowly developing my skills, I began to make garments from scratch. My obsession grew, and I eventually decided to go to college for Fashion Design. After school, I worked in bridal couture and apprenticed with a master seamstress. I later moved on to teach haute couture sewing, pattern making and textiles at a fashion design college. All of these career paths led me to my ultimate joy - designing patterns for you!

With the fast fashion industry wreaking havoc on our earth and our wallets, I wanted to create staple pieces for your wardrobe that will allow you to express yourself in a more meaningful way, while being eco-friendly. The #slowfashion movement is changing the way people buy their clothes. If you would like to lessen your carbon foot print, making your own garments is a great way to start! I wanted to use my patterns as a way to encourage those who are intimidated by the thought of sewing their own wardrobe, by creating simple, easy to understand patterns.
